Let's nip this type of B.S. in the bud
So I read this report that says the U.S is "falling behind other countries" in internet proliferation and speed. This report is put out by Speed Matters/Communication Workers of America. This would be like civil engineers proposing paving all roads to everyone's front door in gold and saying the tax payers should pay for it.
It has been my experience that local and state governments have been the big problem with the spread of broadband. Having seen for myself a town in my neck of the woods (Illinois) pit 2 ISP's against each other, stalling the project for over a year. For me, not having broadband in an area would be a deal breaker for me. I would never move somewhere that didn't have broadband (again).
Local governments should be handing out tax rebates and tax incentives for ISP's to connect entire developments and older rural neighborhoods. States that have wide expances like Wyoming, the Dakotas, and others should be begging WIMAX and fixed wireless companies to come and hook them up.
